My journey into Midwifery began with the birth of my two sons, both births attended by midwives, one in a birth center and one a homebirth. Shortly after my homebirth I began teaching childbirth classes and assisting at births. My journey continued with an apprenticeship in Traditional Midwifery which created for me a strong foundation and knowledge that, "Women know how to give birth, and, babies know how to be born!” I completed my apprenticeship in 1991 and then began my homebirth practice in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. I became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) in 1997 and, a Florida Licensed Midwife in 2001. I currently maintain a diverse, independent homebirth practice, "Spirit of Life Midwifery" in Miami Florida.
I am so honored to be a part of the wonderful tradition of midwifery - supporting, caring for and being "with woman". Pregnancy and giving birth are some of the most magical, powerful times in a woman's life. It is a time of great transformation and change. I know that midwives make a difference. As a midwife it is my mission and my desire to confidently continue to carry on this ancient time honored tradition far into the future.

A birth center is a return to the traditional, safer, non-invasive way of giving birth. The Miami Maternity Center is run with a simple philosophy: "Everything we do is for the comfort, health, and well-being of our mommies and babies."
Birth is a natural experience. We allow nature to take its course and allow the pregnancy and labor to develop without intervention. If an indication arises that calls for intervention, only then do we intervene.
The Miami Maternity Center is staffed by midwives, midwifery assistants, and labor coaches. Obstetricians, pediatricians and other specialists can be called if necessary. We provide full prenatal care, labor and delivery in a beautiful home-like setting, and postpartum care for mommy and baby.
We offer water births, free childbirth classes, early pregnancy class, "Daddy Boot Camp," personal care, and an experienced multilingual staff to give you the best birth experience possible. Our new campus is the nicest and largest facility dedicated solely to pregnant mothers and their babies.
We accept most insurances, including Medicaid, and have a generous payment plan option for those that are uninsured.

Birth is a sacred, natural journey that will unfold when allowed to on its own. The intimate connection that is established through personal prenatal care between the mother, the family and the midwife enhances the power to give birth that already lies within each woman. She feels supported and safe, allowing her to birth in her own unique way.
We believe that:
• Birth is a normal process that for low risk, healthy mothers does not require intervention.
• Babies are fully conscious at birth. Their birth and the moments surrounding its unfolding are essential. This is not only for the baby's development as a person, but is of upmost importance in establishing an intimate bond with their family.
• Educating women and families empowers them to make informed decisions regarding their health and wellbeing.
